Update 1.27.23

Goofy Huu is just a bunch of happy puppy love on some really BIG feet. For all of his big puppy size, he still thinks he is meant to be a lap dog and just wants to cuddle up into your arms.

He would LOVE to go with you on adventures (doesn't even get car sick!) or even to meet with other friendly dogs that you already know.  But skip the public dog parks with this boy. Too many dogs can overwhelm him, making him defensive since Huu is actually very shy by nature. Meeting random dogs in an unstructured setting is only going to stress him out and could cause him to easily become negatively reactive to ALL other dogs.

He loves meeting friendly dogs, though, especially ones who might want to wrestle or play chase.

Huu is not very coordinated just yet ( probably about as much as we would be if we had giant feet) but he still tries very hard to  playing fetch with toys, sticks and balls. He wants to know everything you are doing and has been known to stand up and try and see what's happening on the kitchen table. (He does respond nicely to the 'off' request.)

Huu greatly enjoys interacting with children also- but they will need to understand how to be gentle with dogs and respectful of their space. This pup does not want to be sat on by a toddler, chased by a 4 year old or wrestled with by a rambunctious 5 year old. Face tapping and wrestling will scare him. That is just not his thing.

He WOULD love to play fetch and ball and cuddle and learn some fun tricks with gentle older kids (ages 8 and up) who understand how to play nicely with dogs. Younger kids may find him overwhelming since he is still learning to keep all 4 paws on the floor.

Huu would even enjoy some other fun dog buddies to play chase with! He doesn't generally mind sharing toys and will usually even allow another dog to take his. This baby is NOT a fighter.

He just recently finished up a course of antibiotics for Cryptosporidum and is also on Metronidazole for having some looser stools then we like to see. He came in with Giardia and has been treated for that already. (Regular fecal checks are being done through a lab associated with our veterinarian so that we can stay on top of his health. (Along with having his normal vaccines and well visits. )

A new family for Huu will also need to be excited about helping him to be the healthiest boy that he can be. This could mean a few extra vet visits or medications, adding regular pro-biotics to his diet and/or changing his food around until everything is where it should be.

Of course, none of this has slowed this boy down at all! He enjoys his meals (given in puzzle or treat toys that he has to figure out), is gaining weight nicely and is still his usual, fun, sweet **very** playful self. :)

So, if you're still looking for that fun, mellow, BIG new best friend who is super sweet but has no idea of his own size, then Huu might just be perfect!

Update 1.18.23

It looks like Huu is going to be a big boy! (The google adut size estimator puts him at about 70-80 pounds as an adult based on his current age (14 weeks) and weight (21 pounds). ) So a family who will love a great big cuddly, mellow boy who LOVES people is going to adore Huu.

He is doing so well going potty outside- usually whines to let us know that he needs to go out- and loves to sit outside and calmly watch the world go by.

He is very food motivated so training is coming along very well (he waits nicely to be fed, is doing great walking on a looser leash, waits nicely to greet people when requested and is working on keeping 4 feet on the floor for greetings as well.

Huu enjoys car rides (usually cuddles right up on the seat), meeting new people and exploring new places and environments. He may be slightly hesitant at first, but will soon be taking treats and giving kisses to anyone who gives him a little time to get comfortable.

Update 12.31.22

Little Huu continues to be a cheerful, happy little ball of enthusiastic puppy energy! So far, he loves all people and trots right over to say hi to everyone.

He is doing great going potty outside although he does still have a few accidents if you wait a bit too long.

Huu loves playing and romping with one of his foster brothers (he seems to prefer chasing games over body slam wrestling) and will happily leave his older- grumpy foster brother- alone when we ask him to. So he may make a great companion buddy for another playful dog.

Huu also greatly enjoys playing with toys, chasing balls and finding sticks to eat. He will whine sometimes when left by himself, so he will need a bit of help learning to be happy when he is alone.

But, mostly, he is just a sweet, smart little boy who loves to cuddle, play and meet new people.

Original Description:

Huu is a very sweet little boy with super soft fur and an extremely loving and cuddly personality. They are brand new to our rescue and came from a very overcrowded shelter in Ohio where their adoption prospects were not great. They haven’t been in foster long, but already we have discovered that they are doing great learning to go potty outside and love to cuddle, play with toys and cuddle, cuddle, cuddle some more!

We don't know anything about Huu’s parents but we are thinking that they may be a mix of lab and a few other things.  But if you are looking for a food motivated, sweet, roly poly little pup who loves to play and cuddle then this little one may be a perfect match for your family!

When you lean down to say 'hi'  this little boy may take a minute or two to approach. But use a soft voice and a bit of kibble and they will soon be climbing right into your lap for a snuggle in the crook of your arm. Even outside, little Huu will stay right by you- often sitting right on your feet as you stand there.

Although Huu can be comfortable hanging out in a puppy playpen with an attached crate for naps and ‘down time’ they **really** adore attention and would much prefer being right by your side (or napping in your lap). They may need some gentle help to be able to settle happily in a space by themselves and will likely not do well if left alone- at least initially.

Huu enjoys meeting new people, so far, and makes friends quickly as long as they are gentle, speak softly and don’t overwhelm him with frantic activity, loud voices or rough play. They enjoy playing with other puppies, too, so long as the introduction is made slowly so that Huu doesn't get overwhelmed. Once warmed up, they become a rollicking ball of fun who rolls around enthusiastically and loves to chew on their buddy’s toes and face. Shortly, they will be introduced to several other friendly neighborhood dogs of different sizes and ages but, for now, we have found him another playful pup who can be his temporary friend, wrestling buddy and fellow bumper car.

When outside, Huu is being encouraged to ignore and/or to calmly watch other dogs (animals and people) who may be close or walking by. And, so far, he is doing great!

They enjoy hanging out with the human kids and people (men and women) in their foster home and will usually trot right over for some petting and love. Often, they are happy to follow their favorite people around the house like… well, a puppy.

A fence is not required to adopt this sweety IF you have a very solid plan in mind to keep this boy active and busy. (A walk or two around the block every day will likely **not** be enough to keep them happy and healthy unless you plan to give him plenty of time to stop and smell the roses . . and the bushes . . . and the trees . . . and that rock over there. .)

An active family who loves to spend time with and train their dogs (and who may enjoy participating in agility, scent work, camping, hiking or other dog-inclusive sports) will have a wonderful time with Huu!

Have a dog already? Yuu could do great with a dog buddy to live and play with- just as long as they also get a whole lot of 'people time' in too.

Huu is a joy to work with! They pick up new skills quickly and are very food/attention motivated. They also love running after squeaky toys!

They are currently working on their recall skills, walking with a looser leash, settling quietly when requested to, waiting for permission to go through doors and other basic manners.

Huu is doing great going potty outside- often completing their business very quickly with a prompt or two. They also are learning to sit nicely and wait for their food, keep 4 paws on the floor when they want attention, coming when called over and leaving things alone that they would prefer to eat (like dirty socks, legos and rocks).  Since everything is still very new to them, all of this training will likely take quite a bit of repetition and reinforcement for them to become consistent with.

A family with calmer kids older than 8 will likely be the best fit for this little guy. (Remember- puppies come with their own needs and  can go through some pretty intense ‘Chewy periods’ that may be challenging to manage safely with smaller kids. With the time committment and training requirements they need it's almost always best to think of having a puppy as the same thing as having another toddler in the house. )

Living situations that come with any breed, size or noise restrictions will not work for Huu since we do not know his breed mix and can also not say for certain how big he will ultimately get.

Apartments/townhouses may work, depending on the type, size and location but please keep in mind that Huu can be a bit of a higher-energy pup at times.

Huu will be coming to you from a foster home where they have been consistently worked with from day one using hand feeding techniques, treat balls with kibble inside and toys and training games that are designed to encourage puppies to work on self control and to use their minds, scent and problem solving skills.

Consistent work is put in to encourage positive socialization and friendly adaptive skills. To the extent they are comfortable and able to handle it, the puppies are carefully exposed to the sights/sounds of a busy family household in a more urban environment. (This includes interacting with kids and people of all types, cats, small animals and backyard chickens. As appropriate, they are also carefully exposed to friendly neighborhood dogs and strangers, car rides, walking on different textures and surfaces and desensitized to many other busy environmental stimuli.))

Please note that our adoption process includes a vet reference check on any current or previous pets you may have (had), a home visit (either performed virtually or in-person) and a 'meet and greet'. There may also be some clarification questions sent for you to answer as well. (These are based on the information you provide in your original application.)

All these steps are to help ensure that our pups are placed into families that will be a good match for their individual needs.

HDDCR requires a spay/neuter contract by the adopter if puppies and kittens in our care are too young for sterilization. This is a form the adopter signs at the time of adoption, confirming that they will get the pet spayed/neutered by a certain date. We will hold a $50 deposit on top of the adoption fee until we receive proof from a veterinarian that the dog was spayed/neutered. The $50 deposit will then be returned to the adopter.

Happy Days Dog and Cat Rescue microchips all dogs and cats before adoption. Microchips are implanted between the shoulder blades and are another form of identification should the animal get lost. The microchips are registered to    Happy Days Dog and Cat Rescue. The adopter's information is added once the adoption is complete. The adopter is responsible for a    $19.99/Year registration fee or a $45.00/Lifetime registration fee    to change information.   Dogs and Cats still need to have collar with tags should they get lost.
