Description:
Other Pictures of Gunnar (click to see larger version):Gunnar is a 6 year old super sweet and gentle 90# neutered Golden Retriever Mix. We think he is mixed with German Shepherd. He was part of a family with children, and when a person became allergic, he was moved outside, and lived his life tethered to a pole. Although he seems well cared for, it was not the best life for this lovely boy, and he was surrendered to a shelter. Gunnar was shown interacting well with smaller children, but we do not have any youngsters here, and cannot say how he would be with children younger than 8. We think he is good with other dogs, and a home with another large dog would be nice. He seems to respect outdoor cats, and listens to us when we tell him not to chase the chickens. We would be cautious about recommending Gunnar to a home with small furries such as cats, rabbits, hamsters and perhaps toy dogs simply because we have no information. Gunnar is re-learning to live in a house, and seems to be fine with dishwashers, television, robotic vacuums and normal household activities. He is housebroken. Gunnar did well for his vet exam and was pronounced a “very nice dog”. He handled blood draws and microchip insertion without any reaction and was handled easily. Some things Gunnar does not like: Thunderstorms (and we assume fireworks would be frightening to him) as well as getting into cars. We are working with low stress ways of getting him to go into cars on his own, he allows people to pick him up and put him in for transport, and does lie quietly when the car is in motion. When it is time to get out of the car, he would like it to happen sooner rather than later. Gunnar should have a physically fenced in yard, no electronic fencing or tie outs. Gunnar enjoys walks, and puts on a gentle leader for walks. He does not pull, and is easily handled on a lead. Gunnar is an older dog, and we would say he is medium energy, needing at least a short walk or romp every day. He does not chew on anything inappropriate, and likes to carry things in his mouth. We are looking for a fantastic home for this wonderful dog, so if you think you are a match for this sweet boy, please send in your application today. Happy Days Dog and Cat Rescue microchips all dogs and cats before adoption. Microchips are implanted between the shoulder blades and are another form of identification should the animal get lost. The microchips are registered to Happy Days Dog and Cat Rescue. The adopter's information is added once the adoption is complete. The adopter is responsible for a $19.99/Year registration fee or a $45.00/Lifetime registration fee to change information. Dogs and Cats still need to have collar with tags should they get lost.
